Philanthropist, Yuri Vanetik seeks to shape tomorrow's leaders
Yuri Vanetik possesses a vision as far-reaching and diverse as his pursuit for knowledge when it comes to the many causes that he supports. A true philanthropist at heart, Yuri Vanetik works with Miracles for Kids and serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of the American Red Cross.
“The American Red Cross is truly global, and as a huge charitable institution it accomplishes its mission with precision,” said Yuri Vanetik. “When the need arises, the Red Cross knows how to get the job done, and quickly.”
With the launch of the Center for Global Change, Yuri Vanetik sees great potential for the Center for Global Change. “The Center has now become a reality,” says Yuri Vanetik, “and I am proud to be part of it. It shall be the vehicle to mobilize industry and social opinion leaders to guide us to prosperity and awareness in the next decade and for years to come,” Yuri Vanetik explains.
Starting his own business out of high school came natural for Yuri Vanetik, a son of entrepreneurs. Yuri Vanetik then attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated with Highest Honors (Phi Beta Kappa). Yuri Vanetik is an executive graduate of the Anderson Business School at UCLA, and he received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings.
Today, Yuri’s work varies from duties as a philanthropist and political coalition builder, attorney and venture capitalist. Yuri is always building for the future. “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, chances are you will succeed at it,” Yuri Vanetik explains.
Taking the lead as an entrepreneur, Yuri Vanetik’s newest adventure involves a resource project of a management buyout of a series producing oil and gas leases; it is a mega cross-border deal that requires taking into account the laws and cultures of several different countries. When evaluating what cause or venture to invest in, Yuri Vanetik said that he looks for experienced, smart and optimistic people.
“It is all about people. The wrong people can turn the best of projects into a dental appointment,” says Yuri Vanetik. “In contrast, the right people can salvage any deal.”
Finding a balance in life is one of Yuri Vanetik’s challenges, and he believes that looking for balance may not be the best way of finding it. It is a “Zen thing,” Yuri Vanetik explains. Recreationally, Vanetik makes it a point to pursue downtime interests by collecting French wine, fountain pens, watches, rare knives and art. Yuri Vanetik also shows his unique personal style of custom jackets and belts with unique buckles. Sharing time with close friends and family also provides Yuri Vanetik with a chance to re-charge.
